Precision Engineering with EDM Drill and Metrology

There are several precision engineering companies that manufacture precision products for a large variety of industries. These premier companies such as Precision Products Inc (PPI) are very well established with a number of CNC machines that enable taking on precision engineering tasks. PPI also has some special precision machines such as the EDM drill and the equipment required for laser measuring and extrusion barrel alignment, for gearbox repair or melt pump refurbishment. PPI is also well equipped with modern metrology equipment as well as a high quality metallurgical analysis laboratory.

Metrology is the science of measurement and one cannot run a precision engineering unit without the backup in terms of modern industrial metrology equipment. PPI maintains ISO 9001:2008 certification that enables it to have rigorous calibration of all its precision equipment round the year. The calibration work is carried out with the help of high precision metrology from two coordinate measuring machines. These machines are the Zeiss Contura that offers scanning technology and the Brown and Sharpe Mistral CMM. Both these machines give a certification of 2 microns.

PPI also has the Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) and drill that is one of the most accurate manufacturing processes available for creating complex shapes and geometries. The EDM system consists of a shaped tool or wire that acts as the electrode and the part (work) that is connected to the power supply. Often the work piece is dipped inside a dielectric material fluid that is then circulated to continuously flush away the debris. PPI has three wire EDM machines and one EDM current drilling machine. These machines can produce very sharp corners and edges and since there is no tool pressure they result in very low tolerances.
